I am beginning my 20th year at Oakwood, and my 13th year as a classroom teacher.. My career began at Oakwood in 2003 when I was hired as a teacher assistant. When my daughter graduated high school my husband encouraged me to obtain my teaching degree. I attended Appalachian State University and graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education in 2009. I was hired as a second grade teacher during the summer of 2010. During the summer of 2010, my husband, Butch, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He died on September 22, 2011. His support and encouragement throughout my educational journey enabled me to continue doing what I loved.
I have always loved working with children. Prior to Oakwood, I taught preschool for 20 years. I have always felt that teaching was my calling. I love experiencing life through the eyes of a child.. I believe that in order for students to be successful there must be collaboration between students, parents, and teachers grounded in mutual respect and trust. All students can experience success when they are accepted for who they are and where they are in their educational journey.
I have one daughter. Adrienne, her husband Josh, and my two grandchildren Kendra and Kolby live in Concord. My favorite past time is spending time in Concord with my family. I also enjoy being involved in my church, reading, hiking in the mountains, spontaneous road trips, and ACC basketball. I am a die-hard Duke fan!
My goal this year is to provide a positive learning environment where your child can soar! I am blessed to be a small part of your child's educational journey. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me through a phone call, Dojo message, or email. My email address is saingi@hickoryschools..net.
I am looking forward to an amazing year!
